Next on our house tour is our Master Bedroom! Originally, this room had vertical stripes running up the wall behind our bed. I love stripes, but not for this house or room. We decided to re-texture the wall and paint it white. It gave us a clean space to add a few decor pieces, but I didn’t want to take away from the amazing beam running through the ceiling and wall. That is one of the things I love about this house. It doesn’t need much decor. The materials used on the walls are beautiful enough.
We wanted the Master bedroom to flow into the natural modern feel our bathroom has. I went for a mostly wood and white scheme with touches of blue and yellow. I originally had these beautiful night stands that had gorgeous handles that I was in love with, but the Hubs was not. We decided to look for a pair of night stands that were more mid century. In the meantime, I happened to have the Henry Link Bali Hai night stands you see pictured. I collected quite a few pieces before we lived in our current home. I parted with a few pieces shortly after we moved, but I could not get rid of these. I really love the way they look, but The Hubs would still like to swap them out for something else. For now they live here in the Master.
I absolutely love the ceilings in this room. It makes such a difference. We have recently looked at some homes with standard height ceilings and it is going to be hard to leave these behind!
I had fun decorating this room. As I mentioned before I wanted to have a natural modern feel. All of the furniture is vintage, but the decor in the room is mainly from Target! The wall tapestry, mirror, lamp on nightstand, pillows and quilt were all purchased from Target. Even the stools at the end of the bed! I added in some thrifted books and accessories. Another favorite find is the large painting hanging above our credenza(found at a flea market along with headboard). The art was found at a wonderful antique store in San Diego. I hope we can find a space for it in our new place.
We unfortunately had to get rid of some original features in our bathroom. We love original pieces and try our hardest to save what we can. We needed to update our plumbing and had to lose the yellow bathroom tiles that were on the counter and in the shower. We kept the original cabinets and light fixtures. We also kept the Hall Mack soap niche in the shower as well as the toothbrush holders. Those are just way too cool! The mirror and medicine cabinets are original too. They just don’t make things like the used to. We found a beautiful wood tile for our backsplash at Floor and Decor. The wood hooks are from Easy as well as the turkish towel. The sailboat nail and string art was purchased at a local thrift store.
We originally had a completely different type of floor tile. It was a beautiful white hexagon but the people who installed it were not experienced and it looked awful. Needless to say they were not asked to come back to put in the new flooring. It was not my first choice but I ended up really liking it. We used a classic larger white subway tile all evenly stacked in the shower and behind the toilet. I love the clean look of it. It matches really well with the white quartz we chose for the countertop.
Hope you enjoyed touring our Master Bedroom. In a future post I want to feature some close-ups of the different materials used throughout our home. If you have any questions about anything you see let me know!
